Black Friday Shopping: Was it a Dream or a Nightmare?

Most of the Black Friday hustle and bustle has now died down as it is early afternoon as I write this. With sales starting as early as 12:01 am this morning, it has been over 12 hours of shopping time come and gone already.

I wanted a few of the hot items from Walmart: Kung Zhu Pets for $4, jeans for the kids, sheets for myself. I had no interest in the hot electronics deals that were supposed to start at 5 am. The other items were on sale as of 12:01 am. So hubby and I ventured out to Walmart at 11:40 and as we pulled into the lot, I was surprised to see so many cars. As we walked into the store the sales associate gave us info about the location of the electronic items that weren’t to go on sale until 5am. He told us that most of the other items on sale would be located near their respective departments. Sale toys, near the toy department. Sale housewares, near the housewares…etc. I was on a mission to find the Kung Zhu Pets. I looked and looked. I saw none. I asked a clerk. She directed me to a location…but there were none. I spotted a couple in someone’s cart and asked where she found them. She said they were laying randomly somewhere. She didn’t see the display for them. 

I then overheard an associate saying that they were allowed to open the pallets at 11:30 and if people were around, they could take the items and fill up their carts. They couldn’t check out, however until 12:01. Most of the items I wanted  were already snapped up by 11:45 pm. I was frustrated at that. If the sale starts at 12:01, why are customers allowed to claim them prior? False advertising? I also saw associates giving out numbers to customers for the electronic items that went on sale at 5 am. Were these people actually waiting at Walmart until 5 am?? What about the people that show up a little before 5? Are they completely out of luck?

I did find a few things I wanted to purchase, but the check out lines were soooo long and the items I had weren’t anything special,  so we decided to head back home. I was disappointed. I went online and thanks to My Frugal Adventures, I found a great deal on the Kung Zhu for less than $3.50 a piece with FREE Shipping from Target.com. I ordered them and to bed I went.

I had to go into work this morning, but I did get out of the house a bit early so I could stop at Old Navy. I wanted to pick up a few things there. I had a Barkers Bones $5 off of $50 purchase and a survey discount code: SERVICE for 10% off. I had luck and found the items I needed in the correct sizes. I got in and out in about 20 minutes. This was at 7 am. I was very pleased.

I still had time to kill so I headed to Kmart. I looked for a toy that my son wanted and a few other items. I found what I wanted and was on my way to check out. The poor cashier was about to burst into tears as the lady a few spots ahead of me was getting angry at her because some of the items didn’t ring up as she though they should. I felt very sorry for her. I am sure she would have rather stayed home today.  I was able to move to another line and got checked out within 10 minutes.  I was satisfied with my morning shopping excursion.

I headed on towards work and stopped at Burger King for breakfast and a FREE Friday coffee. Overall I had success. But I was most disappointed in the Walmart situation. I think I will avoid them next Black Friday.

Reynolds Parchment Paper $1.00 Coupon

I never seem to have a cookie sheet that is in great shape. It may start out that way but over time it starts to look a mess and the bottoms of my cookies or biscuits tend to burn before the rest of the cookie or biscuit is done. Ugh!

My solution is to use parchment paper to line my cookie sheets. This will allow me to keep using the old cookie sheets and if I buy new ones, it will help keep them in good condition.
