Is there something better than Ebay? Try eCrater.

Is Ebay old news? With many sellers and buyers becoming increasingly unhappy with EBay; due to high listing and selling fees and a flood of repetious products, another buying and selling site is now available for those persons wanting a free way to list the items they have for sale. eCrater.com. This site is completerly free for buyers and sellers.
At eCrater anyone can set up a free account and list their items for sale at a set price. This isn't an auction site. Sellers list details and photos along with price for their item. They can choose the option of receiving payments, via paypal, google checkout, cash, check...etc. eCrater also has other great features included; a free webstore with free webhosting.
So if you have a few items in your home that you are willing to part with for a few bucks(or more), or are looking for an item to purchase, consider eCrater.com.

Cool & Useful Sites

I frequently search the web for great sites that are free and useful. I came across this site called MemoToMe. You set up a free account and enter any dates or times you want to remember. Your aunt's birthday, a doctors appointment, your kids soccer games...anything. You have custom control over how/when you are notified. You can choose to be notified a day, a few days, a week, a month ahead of time and have reminders sent after that. The customization is up to you to set for each reminder entry. You can have reminders emailed or pay for premium service and have them sent to your cell phone. That is up to you. I usually prefer to stick with the free services.

Another helpful site is efax.com. You can set up a free account and be able to receive faxes directly sent in a pdf file to your email. You get a free fax number you can give to family, friends or collegues. If you want to send faxes, you will have to sign up for thier plus or pro service which they charge a monthly fee. If you want to send a fax for free and don't mind having an advertisement on the cover page, try using faxzero.com. I wouldn't recommend this for business use, but to fax something to a friend or family member might be a good option.

How Can I Save Money...on Anything and Everything?

A great way to save money is to take advantage of the special rewards that companies often offer. Join your grocery store's savings club, sign up for your favorite hotel's reward program. Utilize your bank or credit card's points or rewards club. You can often get things for free or for a very discounted rate.
Don't forget your favorite stores. Many offer special deals for returning customers or for completing a survey. JcPenney always has a 15% discount for your next purchase if you go online and follow the instructions on the back of your purchase receipt. Kohl's department store often runs a special promotion: Get $10 Kohl's cash for every $50 bucks you spend. This promo is running right now thru until April 27, 2009. For every $50 bucks you spend you get a $10 certificate good on your next purchase. This can be very valuable when shopping for a new season or for the holidays.
At the very least, go to your favorite store's website, you can sign up for their newsletters and be alerted of upcoming sales. There are so many ways to save at the businesses you frequent the most. You can literally save on anything and everything.

Bargain Hunting at your Favorite Stores

How can you save a bundle while shopping for your and your family? One great way to save money on clothing, jewelry or home decor, is to shop in the clearance departments of your favorite stores. The clearance racks are usually in the back of the store. In some cases you can find up to 80% off retail. While the sizes and styles are limited in the clearance section, if you take the time, you can find some great deals.
Don't forget that most retailers have clearance departments on their websites as well. They might call it overstock, markdowns or outlet department. Whatever they call it, it can be a bargain for you. A few of my favorite retailers that have great online clearance departments are LandsEnd, Kohl's, JcPenney and Macy's. Check out your favorite store. For more ways to save on clothing for you and your family click here.

Top 3 Ways to Work From Home

Top 3 ways to work from home. Which one is best for you?

1. First is telecommuting. Many companies are willing to allow their employees to work from home. If your current job is one that is mainly done in an office, on the computer or via telephone and you don't have to deal with customers face to face, this might be an option. If your current employer doesn't offer this option as a rule, you might want to work up a plan where it could be a viable option. Present a plan that shows your boss how it would be beneficial not only for you but most importantly, for the company.
2. Find a virtual customer service position. There are several companies that offer this. Instead of having an office space for all the incoming customer service calls, a company might just opt to have a calling center scattered all over the country(or world for that matter). A customer would call a main number and would be directed to one of many CSR(customer service reps). You could be one of them. Click here to see some of the companies that offer this type of position.
3. Create your own business. This a very broad idea, but you can trim it down by really determining what it is you are good at. If you love kids and have the space, maybe a home daycare is in your future. Friends are always asking you to bake a favorite cake or cook a special dish or two for a party. Maybe a catering or baking business is your thing. Do you have a knack for making jewelry or other craft items. You can sell them locally or list them on Etsy.com. For more ideas click here.

Abe Lincoln Savings Plan

I have always had difficulty saving money and am always trying to find creative, painless ways to do so. I heard about this "plan" a couple years ago. I call it the Abe Lincoln Savings Plan. The concept is that everytime you spend money and you get a $5 bill back, you stash it away. So when you go to the corner store and you break a $20, you might get a $5 back. Put it away. Pick up lunch at McDonald's, give a $10...most likely you'll get a $5 back. You get the idea.
Even if it was appropriate to give a 5 dollar bill, after awhile I found myself giving a $10 or $20 purposely so I could get a $5 back. Try it for a month. You will be surprised how quickly it adds up. And how painless it will be.

How to Pack a CupCake (without a mess!)

I'd like to share a helpful tip that one of my readers sent to me recently. She found a useful reuse idea for the small tub butter containers. You know the ones that come two in a pack? She was packing a lunch for her child and she wanted to include a cupcake that was left over from dessert the previous evening. As most of us know a baggie doesn't work, foil is ok, but inevitably some of the frosting gets on it and there is potential for a real mess. There are a few specialized cupcake holders on the market, but why pay for something you can get for free?
Our reader suggests using the small tub butter container. After it's initial intended use, wash and instead of recycling, reuse! The cupcake fits perfectly! A handy way to transport a childs favorite lunch snack.

Work at Home...Scam or Legit?

With so many people looking for work, it is no wonder the scammers are working overtime. Trying to rob many of their time, their money and their dignity. Don't be fooled. If it sounds too good to be true...it is! Nothing comes without some hard work and effort.

Many ads are enticing. Make thousands of dollars from your computer, for only $1.95! Earn money from the comfort of your home. Learn the secrets of selling online....etc, etc. You get the picture. Ok...you click the link. You are asked for your credit card info for a "handling fee" and you will receive all the "free" information you need on how to work from home. Before you give anyone, any money, do some research on the company. Google them. Type in the name of the company and the word SCAM. See what comes up. Check them out with the Better Business Bureau.

With all that being said, there are few companies that offer legitimate work from home opportunities, be it selling products either in person or online. Or customer service positions from real brick and mortar companies. But where do you find them?
A great resource for that information has been WomenForHire. If you're a man don't let that scare you. While there are pieces of information geared towards women...the tips and advice on this site are for you too.
One of the contributors to WomenForHire is Tory Johnson, she has a frequent segment on Good Morning America as an employment contributor. Her advice is legit and respected. On her site, you can find real work at home employment opportunites as well as some ideas for starting your own business from home.

You can also check out my site for additional work at home ideas and links. Working from home can be a reality, but take your time and do your homework so you won't be a statistic.
