I have learned a few tips along the way on how to save a few bucks or more on utility bills.
1. Change your light bulbs. I know we have heard this for a long time, but it works. Switch to the compact florescent bulbs. They cost a little bit more upfront but can save a great deal over the life of the bulb. They typically last much, much longer than a traditional bulb.
2. Change the filters on your furnace/heatpump monthly. This makes your heating and cooling unit run much more efficiently.
3. Save on water by fixing those leaky faucets or running toilet.
4. Get a liter size water bottle, fill with water. Flush toilet. Before tank is full place the filled water bottle in the back corner of the tank. This tricks the tank into thinking it is full. Ultimately you will use less water to flush with saving you $$$$ each month.
5. Install a programable thermostat. Set the temperature down a few degrees while you are not at home and have it programmed to go back up to your usual temperature a few minutes before you are due home.
These are just a few tips to help save some cash on your utility bills.
